Southeast Georgia Health System has an opportunity for a Centralized Scheduler/Registrar to join our team!

Summary: Responsible for scheduling and pre-registration of all outpatient exams for Centralized Scheduling. Responsible for communicating with patients, medical staff and interdepartmental personnel regarding customer needs.

The Centralized Scheduler/Registrar:

* Verifies insurance and program eligibility. Performs medical necessity checks on all Medicare patients.
* Continually strives to make the best use of time during assigned shift through careful coordination of daily tasks.
* Captures all required data elements to complete the scheduling (as indicated by department protocol) and registration processes according to established policies and procedures required to meet state, federal and accreditation standards.
* Performs phone registration to ensure scheduled patients are processed and served in a timely manner upon their arrival.
* Answers all telephone calls by the third ring and follows established customer service guidelines for telephone transactions. Provides assistance to caller according to department protocol.
* Copies and distributes all necessary paperwork associated with scheduling and pre-registration to the appropriate entities.
* Ensures that accurate patient information is collected and patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures.
* Participates in meeting departmental needs and productivity goals through flexibility in cross training and/or working alternative shifts.
* Maintains ongoing files (electronic or manual) of daily procedures and exams scheduled. Prepares daily pre-registration reports for distribution as applicable.

The ideal Centralized Scheduler/Registrar candidate should possess the following minimal qualifications:

* High School graduate or equivalent. College courses in clerical, computers and other related courses preferred.
* Certification preferred in any of the following areas: medical insurance carriers, Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, patient scheduling, or medical office specialist.
* Previous experience in health care setting required. Hospital information systems and one year of registration, automated patient scheduling and/or clinical department clerical experience preferred.
* Minimum of one year of experience in customer service or patient relations required. Excellent interpersonal verbal communication skills necessary. Must have extensive knowledge of medical terminology.
* Must be proficient in using a computer, fax machine, voice mail system and copy machine.
* Excellent customer relations and interpersonal skills. Must be prompt, courteous, and well spoken.
* Must have excellent listening skills. Attention to detail to ensure accurate information is gathered from patients and physicians is required.
* Medical terminology required to appropriately screen physician orders in accordance with federal payor regulations.
