Southeast Georgia Health System has an opportunity for a Registrar to join our Admissions team!

Summary: Performs the efficient and timely registration of Admissions Department patients. All team members of Southeast Georgia Health System will promote a culture of safety, follow established policies, and adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission requirements, and national patient safety standards.

The Registrar performs the following essential responsibilities:

* Greets incoming patients and coordinates the registration process with applicable departments.
* Creates accurate patient encounter records by collecting and entering appropriate demographics into the computer system.
* Performs phone registrations to ensure scheduled patients are processed and served in a timely manner upon their arrival.
* Verifies insurance coverage on all patients having outpatient surgery.
* Initiates insurance precertification on all inpatients. Initiates insurance precertification on all outpatients having out patient surgery when the physicians’ offices have not obtained precertification.
* Coordinates the assignment of patient beds in accordance with physician orders.
* Gathers and processes patient registration data required to meet state, federal and accreditation standards, and ensures that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures.
* Informs patients of their estimated financial responsibility for services, and collects the respective payment due at the time of registration or pre-registration i.e., co-pays, deductible, co-insurance, or estimate for non-covered services.
* Completion of annual education and training related to insurance rules, payment estimation, and customer service with a minimum competency expectation.

The ideal Registrar candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications:

* High school graduate or equivalent.
* Registration or bed control experience in a hospital setting and experience with determining financial responsibility for medical services preferred.
* Interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, physicians, coworkers and external customers. Listening skills. Attention to detail to ensure accurate information is gathered from patients and physicians.
* Medical terminology required to appropriately screen physician orders in accordance with federal payor regulations.
