Southeast Georgia has an opportunity for a Vascular Access Nurse to join our Patient Care Services team!

The responsibilities of the Vascular Access Nurse include patient assessment for appropriate vascular access device placement and troubleshooting, protocol development based on Standards of Practice, staff education, and data collection. Serves as a consultant working directly with other healthcare professionals to identify, educate, and promote best practice in Vascular Access. All team members of Southeast Georgia Health System will promote a culture of safety, follow established policies, and adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission requirements, and national patient safety standards.

* Responsible for developing and maintaining organizational policies and procedures related to central and peripheral lines based on professional standards and in collaboration with physicians and patient care leadership.
* PICC/Midline insertion and care – consistently applies critical thinking skills in assessment and insertion with appropriate follow-up to assure quality care including de-clotting, performing dressing changes, and discontinuing catheters. Assists with difficult peripheral IV insertions. Delivers patient care utilizing standardized evidenced based guidelines of care and appropriate resources.
* Communicates with attending or consultant physician to assure orders are clarified and documented for all interventions.
* Develops and implements an outcome-focused plan of care. Reassesses the patient on a regular basis and makes appropriate revisions to the patient plan of care.
* Follows Health System procedure for documentation of patient condition, corresponding with medical plan of care, charts, interventions, and response including family dynamics.
* Supports and provides education of nursing staff, students, patients and their families in regard to IV therapy. Participates in discharge planning.
* Manages patient hand-offs and utilizes documentation tools for hand-offs as required.
* Participates in orientation of team members by providing constructive feedback and suggestions.
* Keeps current on advances in IV therapy and integrates into practice as appropriate.
* Participates in the periodic review and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of nursing care.
* Participates in product selection and equipment management for medical supplies related to cost effective practice.
* Supports and develops additional duties as required to promote the development of service line to meet patient and organizational needs.
* Serves as a role model for compassionate care and service excellence.
* Provides for the physical comfort and safety of patients, visitors, and members of the healthcare team including infection control and handling of hazardous materials.

The ideal Vascular Access Nurse candidate should possess the following minimal qualifications:

* Graduate of a Diploma, Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree Nursing Program. BSN preferred.
* 2 – 5 years of professional nursing experience in an acute care setting or 1 year of experience as a PICC nurse with ultra sound preferred.
* Current licensure in the state of Georgia as a Registered Nurse.
* Current American Heart Association BLS required.
* Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written skills; ability to work with diverse groups. Trained in all aspects of vascular access. Exemplifies professional nursing practice through expert clinical practice, strong leadership skills and management activities.
