Southeast Georgia Health Sytstem has an opportunity for a First Assist/Surgical Technologist to join our Summit Sports Medicine-Camden Campus Team!

Assistant Surgeons, under his/her direct supervision, during surgical procedures with retraction, skin suturing, tying, hemostasis, and other first assistant skills according to AORN standards and practices. Participates in providing quality care by supporting quality improvement initiatives. Ensures that the surgical suite is prepared according to Surgeon's preference with appropriate instruments, resources and supplies. Works collaboratively with other surgical team members to maintain/update physician preference cards with appropriate instruments, resources and supplies. Anticipates and responds to Surgeon�s needs in a timely manner. Works collaboratively with team members to support cost containment processes and initiatives. Works collaboratively with surgical team to expedite room turnover efficiently and effectively. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, effectively plans and implements care for patients undergoing operative procedures. Prepares the operative suite with instrumentation, equipment and supplies maintaining a sterile field through the utilization of aseptic technique. Works as a patient advocate for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Demonstrates initiative in maintaining a current level of expertise. Demonstrates patient confidentiality and positive interpersonal skills. Practices universal precautions and follows all infection control policies. All team members of Southeast Georgia Health System will promote a culture of safety, follow established policies, adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission requirements, and national patient safety standards.

Provides assistance to the OR team for each specific patient population utilizing age specific guidelines.
Assists surgical caregivers with procedures/tasks related to the care of the patient.
Safely operates and troubleshoots all equipment and instrumentation currently utilized for each surgical procedure.
Assists in the preparation of the OR with the instrumentation, equipment and supplies needed for each specific case.
Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and provides appropriate supplies and instrumentation in an organized and timely manner.
Assists in the orientation and preceptor ship of students and new staff to the role of OR Technician.


The ideal First Assist/Surgical Technologist should posses the following minimal qualifications:

Graduate of accredited school or Surgical Technologist Program or 5 years current experience; proof of current CPR certification required.
First Assist or Scrub Tech Certification required.
Scrub Technologist experience preferred.
